Every December, the Center feels especially magical when American Ballet Theatre brings The Nutcracker to life on stage. It’s more than just a performance—it’s a beloved tradition. Watching the snow fall, the Christmas tree rise, and Clara’s dream unfold with breathtaking beauty is something I look forward to each holiday season. While The Nutcracker is only one part of the Center’s year-round offerings, it captures the sense of wonder and artistry that makes Segerstrom Center for the Arts truly unforgettable.
South Coast Repertory
Right next to Segerstrom Center for the Arts, South Coast Repertory stands as one of Orange County’s most treasured theaters—renowned for its intimate productions, thoughtful storytelling, and meaningful connection to the community.
Every December, my family and I begin the holiday season here with A Christmas Carol—a tradition that never loses its magic. For over 40 years, this heartwarming adaptation of Dickens’s classic has filled the theater with music, laughter, and the spirit of the season. From the glow of candlelight to the redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge, it’s a performance that brings us back year after year, reminding us of what truly matters during the holidays
Irvine Barclay Theatre
Irvine Barclay Theatre—an intimate 750-seat space where the acoustics are incredible and every seat feels close to the action—is one of my favorite places to experience live performances. What makes it truly special is its commitment to showcasing a beautifully diverse lineup of cultural productions.
One standout for me was Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana: Quinto Elemento, a fiery, passionate performance that lit up the stage with rhythm, grace, and raw emotion. I left feeling energized and deeply moved. From Indian classical fusion to global dance companies and world music concerts, the Barclay creates a space where cultures converge and stories are told through movement, music, and art. It’s a gem for anyone who loves discovering the richness of the world through live performance.
Laguna Playhouse
Established in 1920, this historic seaside theater produces regional drama, comedies, and family plays in a cozy and scenic environment.
Pageant of the Masters
The Pageant of the Masters is a breathtaking summer tradition that runs nightly from early July through late August—typically from July 5 to August 29. This world-famous outdoor production transforms the Festival of Arts amphitheater into a stage of living art, where costumed performers are meticulously styled and posed to re-create iconic masterpieces with incredible precision.
The first time I saw it, I was completely awestruck by the creativity—and I still am. Each performance combines music, narration, and stagecraft to turn paintings and sculptures into life-size, three-dimensional illusions. For over ninety years (with only brief pauses during WWII and in 2020), the Pageant has remained a brilliant celebration of art, storytelling, and imagination. If you love visual art and live performance, this magical experience under the stars is truly unforgettable.

During the summer months, parking near dining and theaters in Laguna Beach—like around Laguna Playhouse or the beachside restaurants—is extremely limited and can be frustrating, especially on evenings out.
